In August 2007, all Edexcel A Level and GCSE students will have online access to their results on the morning of results day, from wherever they are in the world.
Almost 2000 students took part in a pilot project in summer 2006. The project was extremely successful, generating many enquiries from students from outside of the pilot group who were keen to receive their results online in the future.
Sundeep Johal, A Level student, Sutton Coldfield College, said: “It was exciting to be one of the first to do it.”, while Shelley Hemmings, GCSE student, Hillcrest School added: “I like the idea of being able to get your results from wherever you are instead of coming into school.”
Edexcel’s Managing Director, Jerry Jarvis, said: “We believe that students should have access to information about their own performance and results on a day which is arguably one of the most important of their lives. Edexcel’s online results service marks the start of a much more ambitious project of providing transparent analysis and diagnosis directly to students. We are committed to raising attainment and meeting the personalised learning agenda.”
In the age of the ‘MySpace generation’, young people expect most things to be accessible to them at the touch of a button. Prior to the summer 2006 pilot, Edexcel conducted some market research which revealed that over 74% of people thought that examination results should be available via the internet. 86% of students who took part in the 2006 pilot said that they would recommend the service to friends.
