The outstanding success of young scholars in Cyprus was celebrated this week at Edexcel’s annual High Achievers’ Award Ceremony. Certificates of excellence were presented to students who achieved top marks in Cyprus and internationally for their A levels, O levels, GCSEs and IGCSEs in this year’s summer examinations. Students from Cyprus broke all previous records this year, with 186 awards presented to 172 candidates.
One hundred and thirty-three of the Island’s most able students achieved the Highest International Mark in their subjects. This means they gained higher marks in their examinations than candidates from all Edexcel’s overseas centres in some 110 countries worldwide.
The celebration was held on Monday 17th December at the Cyprus International Conference Centre, and was attended by almost 700 guests. Speakers at the ceremony were His Excellency Mr Peter Millett, the British High Commissioner; Mr Richard Law, newly appointed Director of the British Council; and Dr David Davies, Global Relationships Manager for Edexcel International.
Jane Holliday, Regional Development Manager for Edexcel who is permanently located in Cyprus said,
“Once again, Cyprus has shown the importance it places on excellent educational standards. Gaining so many of these awards is a great tribute to the hard work of the students – and, of course, the parents and teachers who support them. Of course it’s not just about achieving awards – a good education opens doors for young people in so many ways and I feel very privileged to be a part of this. Well done Cyprus!”
