13/11/2006    Staff from HELP University College, Malaysia, visit Edexcel

Two senior members of staff from HELP University College in Malaysia visited Edexcel’s head office in London recently.  Jasmine Chia, Curriculum Manager for A levels, and Ng Chooi Kin, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, made a three-day visit to Edexcel’s main office in London at the invitation of Trevor Luker, Director of UK and International Sales  at Edexcel, who had recently visited the college. The college is Edexcel’s largest academic centre in the world with approximately nine hundred students taking A levels. The college took a policy decision when it started that all 900 students at the college would be entered for Edexcel A levels.

During their stay, the two visitors held meetings with senior Edexcel staff who gave them briefings on administration, training and marketing issues. They also visited the Edexcel/Pearson processing centre in Hellaby, Yorkshire, where they were able to witness a demonstration of Edexcel’s revolutionary new e-pen marking system for the electronic marking of candidates’ scripts. They also went to Caterham School in Surrey, where the Currciulum Manager, Tom Murphy, gave them some valuable insights into how the A level curriculum was managed in the UK.

The two visitors were very impressed with what they saw during their visit. ‘Both Jasmine and Ng were particularly impressed with Edexcel’s state-of-the-art processing facilities in Hellaby,’ said David after the visit had taken place.
